Westbourne Place was formally a local Police station which has now been converted into a lavish building with an add-on in the rear. The development will consists of 49 luxury residences in the heart of west London, offering one, two and three bedroom units with all the amenities.
As is the case for any restoration project in London, the ability to build below grade needed to be made as efficient as possible. Though Westbourne Place is not a complete restoration project, with the basement and structure behind built anew, the ability to have low maintenance, have no limits on concrete pouring, and ease of installation for concrete waterproofing was vital.
The contractor on Westbourne Place decided to go with Krystol Internal Membrane (KIM) as the concrete waterproofing solution. 1000 m3 of KIM treated concrete was added directly to the concrete mix for the basement car park slab and walls, which allowed the contractor to build straight to the property line and save on the cost of application. Most important, KIM has the ability to self-seal when minor cracks occur in the concrete, which limits maintenance issues that would arise with any other waterproofing product.
For further protection, Krytonite Swelling Waterstop and Krystol Waterstop Treatment were used for all construction joints & details to ensure no leakages occur. Kryton’s dual protection waterstop system blocks any flow of water that might otherwise infiltrate the concrete and corrode steel rebar. KIM, Krytonite, and Treatment will work for the life of the concrete structure.
As of writing, Westbourne Place is dusty dry with all Kryton products working as specified.
