The Women and Child Hospital in Brunei Darussalam is part of the General Hospital locally called Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha (RIPAS). It opened in early 2015 with improved facilities and services for patients. The new $69-million facility is fully operational, with 382 beds for Women and Children in a state-of-the-art structure.
The construction time-line and costs were of the utmost importance while managing the Life-CycleCosts (LCC) throughout the structures life span. Project teams also wanted products with a proven, time-tested technology that they could count on to do the job. The Ministry of Health specified a solution which needed a great track record and extensive experience in concrete waterproofing. They needed an innovative waterproofing solution.
Kryton’s 42-years in the industry and pioneer in crystalline technology made the choice easy for the Ministry of Health. After extensive testing and evaluation by the project engineers, Krystol Internal Membrane (KIM) was selected for all suspended roof slab and roof garden areas. The top floor of the hospital is flat which made it of crucial importance to have a reliable concrete waterproofing system in place because the VIP rooms were located just below. Further, Krystol T1 & T2 were applied in all wet areas and toilets. Krystol Waterstop Treatment was used to create a watertight seal for all of the buildings pipe penetrations.
Mr. Osawa, the RIPAS Project Manager, was extremely impressed with the performance and reliability of the Krystol Waterproofing Systems that he has decided to use Kryton on future projects. As of writing, the Woman and Child Hospital structure is leak free.
Krystol Internal Membrane (KIM) is a hydrophilic crystalline admixture used to create permanently waterproof concrete.
