This 34 storey apartment tower in Calgary’s historic Mount Royal Village neighborhood is the size of a full city block and will contain 223 suits. The project team worked to create a building that is both modern and luxurious while staying true to the neighborhood. As part of that extensive process the team considered their concrete waterproofing needs. Bosa has worked with Kryton products on previous developments and based on past superior performance, specified Kryton solutions for all the underground parking and below grade (underground) areas. The team knew that the complete Kryton concrete waterproofing system including construction jointing solutions provides permanent waterproofing for the life of the structure.
For permanent concrete waterproofing, Krystol Internal Membrane (KIM) was used in the concrete mix for the structural shotcrete walls. KIM lowers the permeability of concrete and is used in place of surface applied waterproofing membranes. By stopping the transmission of water through concrete, KIM adds durability and longevity to concrete by protecting it against chemical attack and corrosion of reinforcing steel. KIM is designed to withstand high hydrostatic pressure and grows increasingly effective over the lifespan of the structure.
To complete the waterproofing system, the team used Krytonite Swelling Waterstop and Krystol Waterstop Treatment on all the below grade construction joints. Krytonite is a synthetic rubber waterstop that uses swelling pressure to seal concrete construction joints and stop water. The Waterstop Treatment is a cementitious crystalline slurry that is applied to horizontal or vertical construction joints to provide waterproofing and protect rebar from corrosion. All the Kryton products combine to form a complete waterproofing system.
Krystol Internal Membrane (KIM) is a hydrophilic crystalline admixture used to create permanently waterproof concrete.
