In 1998 the City of Prague began construction on a connecting bridge to one of the most important tunnels in the Czech Republic, the Tunnel Mrazovka, which is part of the speedway that rings Prague. The city required materials that would enhance concrete beyond its natural capability for reduced cracking and resistance to water penetration and corrosion damage to reinforcing steel.
Krystol Internal Membrane (KIM) in combination with polypropylene fibers were utilized to enhance the concrete used for the bridge. The project was very successful and the concrete is performing as specified.
Krystol Internal Membrane (KIM) is a hydrophilic crystalline admixture used to create permanently waterproof concrete.
