The Boeing Aircraft Plant is the world’s largest volume building under a single roof, with over 62 acres (250,000 cubic meters) indoors. The below grade foundation required very thick concrete pours at 6 feet (1.8 meters) thick at the base tapering to 4 1/2 feet (1.4 meters) at the top.
In 1983, during construction of the foundation, the Krystol Internal Membrane (KIM) admixture was used to tank the building. KIM replaced any need for an external membrane or other waterproofing method. The system continues to perform perfectly today.
