To meet continued demand for their pet food, Blue Buffalo decided to build a new $150 million
manufacturing and R&D facility in Indiana. The design team drew up plans for the almost 400,000 sq
ft plant that is the second Blue Buffalo manufacturing facility in America. Quickly, the team concluded
that this facility’s 4,000 PSI concrete floors would be subject to an extreme amount of abrasion from
forklifts and sliding skids. To increase the wear life of the concrete and ensure the floor was safe and
operational for workers, they wanted top quality concrete hardening solution used in their concrete.
To provide that increased abrasion resistance the team specified Hard-Cem, Integral Hardening
Admixture. Hard-Cem was added to a total of 6,636 cubic yards and was used for the entire interior
slab on grade, 380,000 sq ft. That slab includes the floors for the manufacturing and the research
and development areas.
Hard-Cem, improves abrasive wear life of concrete up to 6 times and provides significant erosion
and abrasion protection. It is the best-in-class hardener for high volume and high traffic distribution
facilities. Hard-Cem’s full depth concrete hardening will extend the service life of concrete in high
traffic areas subjected to abrasion, maintaining riding surface and reduce repair and facility down
time.
Irving Materials Inc. reports that Hard-Cem did well with the concrete mix design and was easy to
place.
Hard-Cem is an Integral Hardening Admixture used to increase Abrasion and Erosion resistance of concrete. Hard-Cem is added to the concrete at the time of batching to increase the hardness of the concrete and extend concrete wear life. It outperforms and overcomes deficiencies of labor intensive surface applied hardeners, and is used to enhance durability...
