Background

  • Location Honolulu, Hawaii
  • Owner Hawaii Board of Water
  • Engineer J.P. Erritt

Several water containment vessels on Oahu Island of Hawaii are susceptible to demanding conditions as the UV rays from the tropical sun quickly deteriorates membranes. As well, earthquakes and constant ground settling causes cracks which allow water to leak. Several waterproofing systems were previously attempted with no long-term success.

Solution

The Krystol T1 & T2 Waterproofing System brush on system permanently restored the water containment vessels. The high-growth organic waterproofing chemicals continue to grow and seal any subsequent cracking as a result of ground shifts and seismic activity. Due to the Hawaii Water Board's success with Krystol, the Hawaiian military base has specified and applied Krystol T1 & T2 on subsequent reservoir construction.
