Island Honda has been selling and servicing vehicles in the Comox Valley since 1986, and it’s been growing since then. Due to this growth, Island Honda needed their construction team to build a larger modern facility that would meet the needs of an increasing business that was aiming to accommodate its sales, service, and parts departments.
Brock White Canada Co. approached the construction team and recommended they use the integral hardening admixture, Hard-Cem, to create a high-quality, abrasion-and-impact-resistant concrete floor. Such a floor with its full-depth hardening would significantly enhance the functionality and life span of the Island Honda facility.
As the construction team’s contractor, Kinetic Construction Ltd. took the time to consider what this enhancement could do, they recognized it would be cost-effective to incorporate Hard-Cem into Hyland Ready-Mix’s ready-mix plant.
Once Hyland Ready-Mix added the admixture, they appreciated its ease of use and how it could assure quality control for Island Honda. In turn, they found that it created a clean construction site with the potential to give Island Honda’s facility LEED credits.
Admixture for Abrasion and Erosion Resistance Unlike post-applied surface treatments that delaminate over time, or high-strength concrete that’s prone to curling and cracking, Hard-Cem integral admixture significantly reduces replacement and repair requirements and more than doubles the concrete’s wear life — lowering its embodied carbon footprint over its lifetime.
