Background

The Amaya Residence 2 is a residential complex that resides on an area of 10,000 m2 (107,639 ft2). This complex, which consists of six separate buildings with 170 apartments and penthouses, is located in one of the rapidly developing areas in Sofia, Bulgaria, next to a metro station, commercial center, and large park area.

It was a large-scale project, but that didn’t deter its construction team from designing it with high-quality technical specifications and construction materials. Unfortunately, the team faced two challenges before they could execute the design: a fast-paced schedule and the presence of underground water in the area. As a result, the team’s general contractor was looking for a long-term solution that would provide reliable protection for the residential complex’s below grade structure.

Solution

The contractor decided to use KIM for waterproofing because of its ability to increase concrete durability and assure quality control. As a result, the construction team used KIM in the below grade slabs, retaining walls, and all the water-retaining structures. This saved a lot of time and resources while also stopping any potential water ingress. Additionally, the product proved that it could provide excellent waterproofing and corrosion protection while eliminating maintenance and repair costs that would have been needed for an external membrane.

Because KIM was so effective at waterproofing and corrosion protection while saving time, resources, and money, the contractor did not have any hesitations about choosing to use more Kryton products for their project. As a result, they went on to use Kryton’s Krystol Waterstop Treatment, Krytonite Swelling Waterstop, and Krystol Waterstop Grout. All of which helped the construction team permanently waterproof the project’s concrete construction joints.

The end results pleased everyone involved in the construction enough to ensure the general contractor would continue working with Kryton’s distributor 4SMART for any upcoming projects.
