From indoor ski/snowboard hills to the world’s tallest building, the Dubai construction landscape has always been pushing the limits of the built environment. In an effort to attract more tourists to Dubai, it now has its sights set on creating a theme park to rival Disney/Universal. The Motion Gate Theme Park in Dubai will feature everything the imagination can think of, including rollercoaster’s, theatres, and restaurants to name a few.
However, with extravagant design and engineering, construction schedules and maintenance is of the utmost concern. This is especially true when considering the lagoon, water reservoirs, and the over 1km canal that weaves through the extravagant park. Each of these need a waterproofing system that will lower maintenance costs, increase lifespan, and shorten construction schedules.
All waterproofing stakeholders in the project determined that the Kryton Waterproofing System would reduce potential maintenance and repairs over the service life. Krystol Internal Membrane (KIM) concrete was used for the lagoon, water reservoirs and the large canal on the property. The canal used both KIM Shotcrete and concrete to ensure a waterproof barrier and also to streamline the project timeline because no surface applied membrane or liner needed to be applied. This allowed the contractor the ability to improve site productivity and reduce safety issues whilst not compromising quality.
For added protection, Krystol Waterstop GroutTM and Krystol Waterstop TreatmentTM was applied to the construction joints, control joints, and details to fully waterproof the canal. As concerns for maintenance were voiced, Dubai distributor Cristal Line Waterproofing provided a 20-year warranty which lowered the potential liability risk for the owner that no other company could match.
Krystol Internal Membrane (KIM) is a hydrophilic crystalline admixture used to create permanently waterproof concrete.
