Kent Building Supply (Kent’s) is a chain of 36 retail home improvement stores in Atlantic Canada. Founded in 1974, it is the region’s largest big box building supply outlet in terms of locations and sales. Kent’s employs over 2,500 people in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland – Labrador and Prince Edward Island. Kent’s maintains three styles of stores. The “Traditional” styled stores are up to 45,000 square feet, the “Mini Box” styled stores are up to 85,000 square feet including warehouse space and the “Warehouse” styled stores are up to 100,000 square feet.
Recommended and supplied by Arrow Construction Products, Hard-Cem was first used in the Conception Bay store in all areas and soon expanded to include outside aprons in the St John’s warehouse style store because of Hard-Cem’s compatibility with air-entrained concrete. Hard-Cem provides concrete surface abrasion and erosion resistance for all high traffic pedestrian, cart and forklift areas from the Garden Centre to the drive-through lumber yard. Long term savings are achieved by lower maintenance costs as well as improved floor flatness for customer and employee safety. Hard-Cem has been incorporated in 5 stores to date.
