Its report, Performance of Corrosion Inhibiting Admixtures in Hawaiian Concrete in a Marine Environment, examined the durability of reinforced concrete specimens containing various pozzolans and chemical admixtures exposed to a harsh marine environment.
Test panels were installed in the tidal zone of Honolulu Harbor and monitored over a period of approximately 10 years, from 2002 to 2012.
Researchers evaluated half-cell potential, chloride concentrations, cracking, and visible signs of corrosion to assess long-term durability performance.

The findings demonstrated KIM’s effectiveness in preventing corrosion under real-world marine exposure conditions. It was 100% effective. Its competitors, one of which claims to have “no equal”, proved to be deficient and ineffective in this study.
Compared to other permeability-reducing admixtures, KIM was the only admixture that provided superior long-term protection while also exhibiting significantly reduced surface erosion and barnacle encrustation, likely due to reduced mineral leaching and KIM’s continued sealing action.
