Krystol Mortar Admixture - KMA (K-309)

DESCRIPTION
Krystol Mortar Admixture (KMA) is a specially designed chemical admixture for cementitious mortar. KMA contains a unique blend of specialty chemicals that react with the cementitious materials in the mortar to form hydration crystals. These long, hair-like crystals block the capillary pores and micro-cracks within the mortar so that permeability of the mortar is dramatically reduced.

PHYSICAL PROPERTIES

APPLICATION
KMA is a dry powder that is added directly to the mortar during mixing. The dosage rate is 1kg per 50kg of cement (see Dosage). Mix to desired consistency. Most mixes will require less water than usual. Mix for at least 5 minutes after adding to the mixer.

Install mortar as normal. For increased damp-proofing performance apply mortar to a greater thickness – up to 5cm in 2 or more layers. Continue occasional mixing as the material is being installed. Discard any material that shows signs of stiffening or setting. Do not wet-up by adding water.

CURING
Protect from rain until hardened. Protect from hot sun or wind for at least 24 hours. Cure the mortar application by misting with water repeatedly for 2 or more days.

DOSAGE
Dosage is 2% of cementitious content. (cement + any supplementary cementing materials x 0.02)

1kg per 50kg of cement.

Mortar that contains 25% cementitious will require 1kg of KMA for every 200kg of mortar.

Mortars with higher cementitious contents will require proportionally more KMA.

PRECAUTIONS
This material is a dry powder that becomes caustic when mixed with water or perspiration. Avoid contact with skin or eyes.  In case of skin contact, wash with soap and water.  Flush eyes immediately with warm water for several minutes.  If ingested, do not induce vomiting.  If victim is alert, give two glasses of water. Avoid breathing dust. Wear long sleeves, eye goggles and a dust mask.
