SECTION 07162

Hydrophilic Crystalline Waterproofing for Concrete - Crack Repair and Surface Treatment

*ATTENTION SPECIFIER*   This section details the use of Krystol T1/T2; crystalline waterproofing surface treatment for existing concrete manufactured by Kryton International Inc, which is located at:

    1645 Kent Avenue East

Kryton products waterproof concrete by a chemical process that develops insoluble hydration crystals called “Krystol” in the capillary pores of concrete.  This section outlines the use of Krystol T1 and Krystol T2 as a brush on surface treatment for waterproofing existing concrete, and as part of the Krystol Crack Repair System for leaking concrete.  As a surface treatment, Krystol grows into the concrete to provide integral waterproofing below the surface even if the initial surface treatment is later damaged or removed.  For new concrete, Krystol is available as an admixture (KIM) as described in Section 03305 and Technical Bulletin 301.  The Krystol Waterstop System for non-moving construction joints is described in section 03152 and Technical Bulletins 103 and 104.  A dry shake product for concrete flatwork called Krystol Broadcast is described in section 07162 and Technical Bulletin 205.

Krystol T1/T2 can be used on above and below grade concrete, and may be applied to either the interior or exterior side of the structure.  Typical applications include concrete decks, elevator/sump pits, pools and fountains, tunnels, reservoirs and wet wells, underground parking structures or any structure that required permanent waterproofing.

Krystol T1/T2 should be cured for a minimum of 28 days before applying any coating.  The coating contractor is ultimately responsible for assessing the suitability of the surface for painting and performing all necessary surface preparation.
