Recreational Facilities
Richmond Aquatic Center - Watermania
Richmond, British Columbia
BACKGROUND
Richmond Aquatic Center was constructed in 1996 near the Fraser River in Richmond, BC. The facility's 57-meter competitive pool has an 18 ft. dive tank that is 10 ft. below the water table. Because of the proximity to the ocean and major river system, the high water table created concern, as the strong hydrostatic pressure would delaminate the pool finish.
SOLUTION
KIM Admixture (Krystol Internal Membrane) was used in the deep end of the pool and has been holding back ground water from the Fraser River, which is directly affected by tidal deltas up to 15 feet deep. Where KIM was not used in the pool's shallow end, leaking occurred in less than two months. Kryton's joint design system was then used where the original PVC waterstop system failed. To date, the Kryton products have performed as specified.
