Revelstoke Hydro Dam
British Columbia, Canada
BACKGROUND
The Revelstoke Dam on the Columbia River is one of the largest of its kind at 175 meters tall. Over two million cubic meters of concrete were uses to build the dam. The reservoir created by the dam extends 130 km upstream and contains 5.3 billion cubic meters of water, which produces tremendous hydrostatic pressure on the dam infrastructure. Only the absolute best waterproofing system would be adequate for the project.
SOLUTION
In 1985 the exterior face of the powerhouse wall below the dam was treated with the brush on application of KRYSTOL T1 and T2. A review conducted in 1992 confirmed that the Kryton System is working well; areas are dry to date.
