Below-Grade
Intrawest Employee Services Building
Whistler/Blackcomb, Canada
BACKGROUND
The employee services building was designed right into the side of the mountain next to the Westin Hotel, which also utilized KIM. Substantial mountain run-off was expected to be a problem.
SOLUTION
In the summer of 1998, in very hot 33°C temperatures, the foundation walls were poured over 3 meters in height. Both the KIM admixture and the Krystol Waterstop Joint Design were installed in the walls and the suspended slab as the sole waterproofing system replacing membrane requirements. To date the system is performing as specified.
