Above-Grade Water Containment Tank

Norwalk, Conneticut, United States of America

BACKGROUND
Constructability and cost effectiveness were key concerns for engineers on the above ground tank built in Norwalk, Connecticut. Built indoors to supply water in case of fire emergencies to a large retail mall and a health spa. The water containment tank was built approximately 20 feet high, 30 feet wide and 40 feet long to hold nearly 40,000 gallons.

SOLUTION
The 40,000 gallon tank was made watertight by the sole use of KIM® in the concrete and the Krystol Waterstop System™ for all construction joints. Due to the tank being above ground and indoors it has facilitated routine inspections. Since March 1999, the structure shows no water dampness, leaks or seepage of any kind.
